Raising the political stakes for Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) Chairman Imran Khan, Pakistan Awami Tehreek (PAT) Chairman Dr Tahirul Qadri on Friday during speech called on the people not to follow him or Khan if either of them or other leaders of the anti-government alliance enter into any sort of agreement with the Sharifs-led ruling alliance.
Addressing a press conference outside his residence hours before his workers engaged in violent clashes with the Lahore police, Qadri said that the people should continue to fight for “revolution” even if he or Khan deviate from their stances.
“The future of the country is in your hands,” Qadri said addressing the youths, which make a sizeable part of both PTI and PAT.
Lashing out at the Punjab government for cracking down on PAT workers and making mass arrests, he said the Shahbaz Sharif government was a ‘state terrorist’ which had turned Model Town into Gaza.
“After the ‘revolution’, the Sharif brothers would be held accountable for all their misdeeds,” he said, adding that the entire province had been virtually turned into a battle zone by the government.
“But I’m telling all my followers to break police cordons and reach Lahore to participate in the Youm-e-Shuhada on Aug 10,” he said.
Addressing a press conference later in the evening, Qadri condemned alleged police violence on PAT workers and said the government was hell-bent on worsening the situation.
“Our Youm-e-Shuhada is dedicated only to pay homage to those killed in the June 17 violence. I guarantee that it will be a peaceful event and the government should not hinder the participation of our workers,” he said.
