ISLAMABAD – A non-bailable arrest warrant has been issued for Lal Masjid cleric Maulana Abdul Aziz, by a civil judge today as reported ONLINE.
Senior Civil Judge Saqib Jawad issued the arrest warrant against the Lal Masjid cleric, while hearing a case filed by civil society members.
During the hearing, the investigation officer of the case requested the court to issue an arrest warrant for Abdul Aziz for investigation, based on a First Information Report (FIR) that was previously registered against the cleric at Aabpara Police Station.
Judge Saqib accepted the investigation officer’s request and an arrest warrant was issued, which will be followed by the police taking legal procedures to arrest Aziz for further investigation.
The non-bailable FIR was registered under section 506 (2) of the Pakistan Penal Code which states punishment for criminal intimidation or threats. SHO of Aabpara police station, Khalid Awan told that the non-bailable arrest warrant for Maulana Aziz had been received.
Two days ago FIR No. 569 had been lodged in the Aabpara police station against Maulana Aziz for threatening members of civil society. Members of civil society had been protesting outside the Lal Masjid against Maulana Abdul Aziz for his unwillingness to condemn the brutal attack on the Army Public School in Peshawar. Aziz in a statement given to a TV channel said he could not condemn a single incident.
